Dictionary

Playable words come from the ENABLE word list — 168,551 words, public domain, and the foundation for most open-source Scrabble and Words With Friends tools. It covers every word accepted in tournament Scrabble (TWL) and WWF.

Definitions

Word definitions, parts of speech, and example usage come from WordNet 3.1, a large lexical database developed at Princeton University. WordNet's irregular-inflection lists and Princeton's morphy algorithm let us resolve plurals, conjugations, and comparatives back to their base forms.

WordNet is provided under a license that permits both research and commercial use, with attribution.

How it's fast

The dictionary is pre-indexed at build time into a sorted-letters → words map. At query time we generate every subset of your input letters (at most 2¹⁵ combinations) and look them up in O(1). The index ships as a static JSON asset served from Cloudflare's edge — no database, no cold start.
